Fizzy Water

I hate this stuff.

Why? The bottles? Or you don't like the bubbles that go up your nose? What I can't stand is Coca Cola or Pepsi; Vichy water would seem to be an improvement over both of those - but I still object to things packaged in plastic or glass.

I disagree with your comments regarding grades. If you were going to hire someone, what would you base it on? Obviously not grades alone, but if their grades were good their resume is one step closer to the hiring managers desk, rather than the trash can. While grades are NOT everything, they do provide some information on the capabilities of an individual.

Question: If you were to hire a new graduate out of college, and had 1,000 resume to sort through, what would be your approach?

Your kayak picutres are terrific! I am quit jealous. West Michigan has some really nice rivers, but nothing like your kayak areas. Shannon and I have a two seater kayak and have hit the water a number of times this past summer. This winter, I hope to build my own single kayak in the basement.

Here is a project for you, deadline Christmas. I live in a private subdivision with approximately 60 houses on 100 acres of land, 40 of the acres are shared common land. This year alone, I have generated a lot of yard waste and I notice that my neighbors do the same. A lot of people just throw the waste in to brush/natural areas. I have also noticed how little we throw out, now that Shan/I recycle and compost. I have a garden to dispose of my indoor/compostable waste, but other do not. I was thinking of starting a community compost pile, for both the yard and food waste. Is this viable? What other actions could the subdivision take to improve the world we live in?

Ron, I hate coke and pepsi more. but I would much rather have some nice regular water.

Tim, I have not seen the place, and know little of composting in such a wide area ( I lived in Tokyo, remember?) but I would guess it is viable if you have thought of it. If you have that much space as common area to start composting, it is just a matter of poitical will to do what is best for the future (which I don't really think we can find much of in US right about now...) . As for other actions that your neighborhood could take, *helping* other people to think strategicaly and answer questions like that is exactly what I am studying. I can not come up with the answers, but when I get home it would be a good "project" for me to help you, as a member of the community, to come up with some answers on your own. I think this may also have some connection with what I am thinking about for my final "thesis" project. I just have to make the subject sound more academic than it is in my mind right now.
