Contrasts
I leave behind Tokyo for the North Alps again in about five minutes. I don't know how long I will be there this time, so I leave you with two questions that have been occupying my mind recently.
What if Gayliens visited our planet with solutions to all of the worlds real problems?
What insights into life can be found by having a drunk remake your home?

Hi Kevin and Tomoe,
After meeting you the other day and then reading your last few posts I was so moved by the direction you are both taking in your lives that two nights ago I stayed up all night seriously rethinking my priorities and dreams. I went so far as to look up information on Outward Bound, in order to get a license in outdoor leadership. I'm now thinking about taking a big course in the States or maybe Australia or New Zealand. Any advice?

miguel, you dont know how much your comment means. Often we feel like we are making a big mistake and screwing up our lives because it does not follow the life that "successful" people follow. To hear that it may motivate or influence someone gives our choices (as foolhardy as they may be) some validity.
As for advice abouit OutwardBound, I would like first to hear your main goal. While I thouroughly enjoyrd both the courses I was on, ns learned a lot from both, I dont know that I *needed* them to get my current job, l\although they helped. They will however help me in the future to realize the "big dream".
One thing about Outward Bound US was that I was by far the oldest person in the class at 31. The next oldest was 24. It was eye-opening and I enjoyed it, but it was also a bit frustrating.
In terms of getting "connections" in the Japan outdoor education world, Outward Bound Japan was obviously muvch better, but I am not even using those conections ow as I am working for a company run by a Canadian.
You already have a vey extensive education background, as well as nature and outdoors, so if you simply want to get an outdoor job, it might be easier for you than it would have been for me.
I have much more I can tell you, but I am stealing time on a computer for the guests of the hotel where I just took an onsen bath. I dont want to get cought.
I will get in touch soon.
