Somebody please show me the way!
So I have this video, all in Japanese that I want to translate to show my parents (or anyone else interested).
I have downloaded or tried to download various free video editing software to my macbook, but either the installation process makes me give up (I have other things to do too) or the software doesn't have the seemingly simple ability to JUST ADD TEXT and I would like to be able to cut the video length.
I never thought I would see the day that I became "one of those users" who don't have time to read the manual, and want everything to "just work", but in this case I am.
Anyone know a free or cheap plug and play video editing software for mac that can help me add subtitles and crop video?
Photos are of Tomoe's niece and Mona from our visit to Tomoe's parent's house.

Comments
I wholeheartedly agree: If the software needs a manual then it doesn't need me!
For cutting video try avidemux (http://www.avidemux.org/). There seems to be ways to subtitle using this software and videos on youtube about it too!
For subtitling try jimaku-kun (http://jimaku.in/).
Good luck!

i don't know why i'm trying to help since i'm ignorant on this topic, but do you have the imovie software on your mac, and doesn't that have a way to add subtitles?
i found this:

maybe you need a more recent version of the software...hope it helps

Seems like if ease of use and simplicity are key, and time is of the essence (which, with a little one I'm sure it is) you may consider shelling out the $80 US for iLife with iMovie '09. I'm not a movie person either, so if I were hell-bent on doing this and I wanted minimal hassle I'd probably take the easy way out: iMovie. Other commenters may feel free to put me in my place for giving in and trying to fix the problem with money.
(That said, you may be able to find older versions of iLife with older versions of iMovie on them for much cheaper than from the Apple store.)

Why don't you download a demo of some of the good editing programes and use it for your video? They usually let them try the software for some weeks, enough to edit one video!

k. maybe i don't understand what you want to do... but iMovie will let you edit and add text / captions.
ALSO... youtube will let you add captions to an uploaded video. and it's fairly simple.
