Best of Bastish

Andrew Beveridge at asbCreative/ has pulled some strings and has gotten me an opportunity to show some of my photos in cafe/bar/club here in Tokyo. This will be the first time for me to see framed prints of my own photos, so I'm not quite sure how they will turn out, or which photos may have looked good to me on the web, but aren't really exhibition material. I have my own list of my favorites, but wanted to get some other opinions. If you have been looking at my site over the past year or so, since I started posting the photos, and remember a few that you think would are better than the rest, or would be good to display, what are they?

Of course, if you're relatively new to my site, you are welcome to go through either the gallery, or, maybe quicker, to look through all my monthly archives for the past year (it has been exactly one year since I got that Lumix camera and got hooked on photography). Of course, unless you are on a broadband connection, it may take you a couple weeks to view all the archive pages.

I think this last series of photos in Shikoku have been great. I would defintely include the landscape shot from May 22nd and the series from the 23rd. Also, I took a quick look back in April and thought that the following were great for a gallery:

April 3rd - both Pigeon shots.
April 20th - the 2nd photo of street
April 24th - last two photos of people with sunlight.

Those are just some of my favorites.

Re your question on Japanphotography mailing list (I would have answered there but have not done my introduction email yet!).

Increase your pictures before you do any other adjustments. Also, increase in small amounts at a time rather than one big amount. You should look to be increasing by no more than 5% each go. After you have right size then start your manipulations.

Not sure what size you're thinking of displaying at but I would suggest no more than A4 given the intimacy of some of your work. At this size, you're looking for a dpi resolution of between 240-300. Not sure your mp count on your digital but I shouldn't have thought you'd need to res up your pictures too much.

Wish I could be in Tokyo to have a look at them once done as I do like your work. My favourite is from this set...the train lines. The left hand side is a little busy so I may consider a crop to make a square format. I would also go for some variations - a more black and white look, add some grain/noise and play around with dodging/burning brushes. I also agree with previous poster that the more recent Shikoku work is you're best yet. Keep up the good work.
